2018 will see the ever-influential acid jazz records celebrate thirty years at the forefront of the uk soul jazz scene. with co- founder eddie piller still at the helm the label continues to stride forwards both with new artists whilst also uncovering old classics. following the recent and definitive career spanning compilation anthology: 1972 -1984, acid jazz are pleased to announce details of two further leroy hutson albums, the reputation enhancing hutson and hutson ii will be available for the first time in over twenty years on vinyl.

the 4th meters album marked their departure from josie records and was released on the reprise label in 1972. cabbage alley once again proved that the meters were one of the finest, rawest funk groups around. hailing from the soggy streets of new orleans, the meters essentially invented the second line groove, influencing funk music like no other artist (ok, aside from a singer by the name of james brown). these cats are essentially one unified rhythm section, with expertly timed drum breaks, bass driven grooves, bluesy chicken scratch guitars and southern singalong choruses.

jungle/breakcore legends deformer are back with another horror infused release: “the living dead deformed”. deformer is known for putting the shock into electronic music and pushing the horror experience to another level. during their shows they cut off limbs and intestines are thrown into the audience while the extreme music turns the crowd into raging freaks. “the living dead deformed” pays hommage to one of the biggest horrorfilm classics of all time: “night of the living dead” (1968) and its creators.
the record was produced before the unfortunate passing of george a. romero. out of respect, deformer chose put out the record as a non-profit, limited edition, numbered by hand, green coloured vinyl release. the amazing cover art is created by legendary visual artist graham humphreys (a nightmare on elm street, the evil dead, poltergeist).
“the living dead deformed” is dark, menacing and will again turn parties into moshpits. they won’t stay deaf!

the superb forbidden planet is a shiny early electro cut with a great funk bass line, a real instrumental groove and fantastic melodies that shimmer like a hot sun. it s filled with joy and sounds as fresh today as ever, the way it ducks and dives and offers real warmth. the francisco remix keeps the funk vibe but changes the groove to be a more chicago house style cut. as such it has a rasping bassline, big drums and coarse percussion that make you want to jack. the masterful ali renault—a go-to disco and synth specialist who runs cyber dance records, human shield record company and most recently his own vivod imprint—then turns out a hypnotic version that is more driven and direct for the dance floor, with robotic bass and epic reflective synth lines. it s a cinematic track with great analogue textures that goes back to the future. the last original is the excellent stay with me , a cosmic love song with breezy trumpets and dreamy disco vibes as well as soulful vocals. italo melodies and infectious percussion finish it off and make it an instant crowd pleaser.

re-issued again, with new liner notes. repress - a wonderful, rare record wrapped in a mysterious yet playful ambiance. or maybe it s just the impression that the japanese language often gives me. suiren is an odd jazz-fusion-wave tune that sounds like its boiling, waiting to burst but somehow manages to stay in control. like the nervous tick of a leg fidgeting under the table of a restaurant on a first date. yasuaki shimizu is a japanese composer, producer and saxophone player born in 1954. he worked with ryuchi sakimoto on certain arrangements, with the south korean artist nam june paik on art+sound installation pieces and even dj towa tei (of deee-lite fame). suiren was released in 1981 and is the opening title on the sought-after kakashi album and is my personal favorite on this overall brilliant record. it weaves behind new wave, jazz, fusion, ambient and experimental music.

music for dreams is proud to announce the new album by danish legend dub tractor. one of the founding fathers of electronica in denmark in the early 90s, anders remmer has remained a reluc-tant beacon of copenhagen’s scene ever since, with his musical legacy still a work in progress. as well as being a member of future 3, remmer has released material under a number of different aliases, but his most frequent guise dating back to 1994 has been dub tractor. under this name, he gently crafts complex yet warm and organic electronic music that flirts with ambient, dub and idm. with “hello ambient wash”, the first dub tractor album since 2009, remmer explores further the possibilities of dub tractor after the more pop-oriented & shoegaze-flavoured approach of his last album -sorry-. in addition to new material, the second half of “hello ambient wash” presents a ret-rospective of hand-picked tracks from his first three albums on flex records (the label which music for dreams founder kenneth bager ran with ole mortensen from 1994 to 2007). ... bonus info: nils frahm is a fan.
